Boys’ Town optimistic after U-17 title

Leon Mitchell, president of the Boys’ Town Football Club, said his team’s victory in the final of the KSAFA Under-17 competition on Saturday is a big morale booster for the club and community.

Boys’ Town had a terrible season last year where they were relegated from the Red Stripe Premier League competition.

However, Mitchell said the club’s stunning 3-0 win over Cavalier in the final at the Excelsior High School has restored some pride in the community.

“This is something good for us because I told the coaches and the management that we have to start from the youths and bring them right through in the programme,” said Mitchell.

“And we need to make sure that we have a solid foundation because Super League is going to be very tough as there are some very good teams in there.

“It is not going to be so easy to come straight back up, and we have to make sure that the depth of the squad is of such that you have that mentally of winning,” he said.

He added that he hopes that the victory will also help to lift the spirit of the community.

“I am [hoping] that they will begin to realise that we are on a quest and this is the beginning,” he said. “Super League starts soon, and we are going to be in training, and so we should be ready for it,” Mitchell said.

Omar Reid was among the star performers for Boys’ Town as he netted two goals in the final.
