Vijahn gets overseas buzz

-

After a breakout performance at Reggae Sumfest in July, reggae artiste Vijahn has been receiving a lot of buzz in overseas market, and the heightened attention has translated into more bookings and greater opportunities for career advancement.

“Since my performance at Sumfest, I have been getting a string of calls for shows overseas, and it is a really good look for me now. And now, with the release of my new video, Kunta Kinte Pickney, on August 4, all things are possible,” an elated Vijahn said.

Last month, he also released another single, Life’s Journey, produced by Ghetto Life Records and G City Music. Later this month, a new song, People A Just People, is slated to be released soon on the Downsound Records imprint.

Vijahn, born Anthony Edwards, was the Red Stripe 2018 Big Buss Talent Search winner. Red Stripe, title sponsors for Reggae Sumfest, had given a chance to an amateur performer to command the stage at the highly anticipated music festival.

Before the ‘big buss’, Vijahn managed to carve out a reputation as a Rastafarian firebrand with a bright future with his hard-hitting Kunta Kinte Pickney single.

“Most fans already say Kunta Kinte is a hit song, and I am just glad that the video can finally be released now. The fans want to hear what else I have to say, because Jamaica needs songs that empower us as black people and that keep the ancestral spirits alive,” the deejay said.

Vijahn is a consummate live performer who has rocked packed venues at events such as the Fishermen’s Regatta in St Mary, the RJR Cross Country road shows, the annual Marcus Garvey celebrations, and the Yasus Afari Poetry Festival over the past two months.
