Jamaican woman faces hell in Cayman Islands

-

Her hellish stay at the property continued.

“I was in my room in my underwear alone, painting, and just saw when the landlord and a group of police entered my room and told me I was squatting and I needed to leave,” she said.

“I thought my landlord was senile. The police told him that he had to give me a month’s notice. The following day he was in my bathroom with a piece of stick, telling me that I need to leave. I came out naked and told him that I had to put on some clothes, and he wouldn’t leave, so I had to stand there and put my clothes on,” she said.

POLICE OF LITTLE HELP

The woman said she has sought the assistance of the police several times but they have been of little help. Faced with the disrespect and invasion of privacy, White said she has since purchased an old home, which is in the process of renovation.

White said that there are a number of Jamaicans who are subjected to disrespect and abuse at the hands of their landlords. She stated that she is imploring Jamaicans living in the Cayman Islands to unite and lobby against the abuse they have been receiving from some of the nationals.

“A lot of things are swept under the carpet. Even the media can’t report certain things, but we have to take a stance. I have seen some of my fellow Jamaicans been thrown out of their homes because their rent are late, and this is so because their Caymanian boss does not pay them on time. This has to stop,” she said.
