Guard fearful after Dream Weekend shooting

-

The security guard who shot and killed a patron at Dream Weekend on August 3 has reportedly been receiving death threats.

People with knowledge of the situation told THE STAR that the guard is fearful for his and his family members’ lives.

Several threatening voice notes have reportedly been making the rounds since Jean Mathieu, 37, a businessman of a Millsborough Crescent address in St Andrew, was shot and killed at a party in Negril.

“He is really scared for not only his life but also the lives of his family. After listening the voice notes and hearing from other persons about the bounty that is placed on his head, he is taking no chances and is really fearful. This wasn’t something that he wanted to do, the other man was shot out of self-defence,” a source told THE STAR.

LOW PROFILE

Police report that at about 3:15 a.m., Mathieu was a patron at the Dream Live party when he got into an altercation with the security guard and was shot. The matter is still being investigated.

Yesterday, several sources said the security guard has been advised to keep a low profile.

“The police and persons close to him have advised him to ‘stay low’ and not to share anything with anyone. He is keeping out of public spaces and just not going on the road unless it is really necessary. He and his family are definitely not taking this lightly,” another source said.

“He strongly believes that the persons who are threatening may know where he lives because persons were sharing some of his information, including his photograph on social media. People need to be mindful of what they do. Sometimes just one post can cost a person their life,” a concerned person said.

THE STAR sought to get a comment from head of the Westmoreland police, Superintendent Gary McKenzie, but he stated that he was unable to speak on the matter at the time.
