– Shaw leading Jamaica’s Women World Cup dream

-

Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw is hoping to continue her goalscoring form in the CONCACAF Caribbean Women’s World Cup Qualifiers, in the nation’s quest for a historic berth to the Women’s World Cup next year in France.

Shaw scored a hat-trick last Saturday against Antigua and Barbuda to lead Jamaica to a massive 9-0 victory at the National Stadium.

The Jamaicans will next play Bermuda in the CONCACAF Caribbean Women’s World Cup Qualifiers tonight, starting at 7 at the National Stadium, with Cuba tackling Antigua and Barbuda at 4 p.m.

Shaw was pleased with her performance, but is focussing on the team’s objectives.

“Every game you go into to win and as a number nine player, you want to score in every game. My aim is to score in every game and help Jamaica to the CONCACAF qualifiers in October. As long as we win the game, that is my objective,” Shaw told STAR Sports after last Saturday’s game.

FINAL STAGE

“We are bonding as a team and the five-day camp leading up to this Caribbean final stage helped us to come together as a unit,” she added.

“We came out and did what we had to do, I think in the first half we were too complacent, but we stepped it up and won the game 90,” Shaw reflected.

Having started her international career as a 14-year-old student at St Jago High School, Shaw went on to Florida State Junior College and received a lot of honours. She made a commitment to mould herself as a student of the game, and her physicality and quickness in reading the game have brought her tremendous success.

The towering player has represented Jamaica at every level starting with stints in the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-20, all as a 14-year-old.

Shaw is currently at the University of Tennessee in the United States of America.
