Masicka makes appearance on US morning show

-

Dancehall artiste Masicka made an appearance on Fox 5’s morning programme, ‘Good Day New York,’ yesterday, where he spoke about a number of issues.

When asked about the numerous Portmore-based dancehall artistes such as Vybz Kartel who have been dominant in dancehall, Masicka told the interviewers that the country on a whole has a strong love for the genre of music.

“Every community has the passion for music. If you visit Jamaica, you realise that the community has a strong culture for dancehall,” he told THE STAR.

The deejay also noted that United States-based musicians and their Jamaican counterparts borrow aspects of each other’s culture.

“It’s the same music, it’s one universal language. But you have US artistes that tap into the culture, and we tap into their market too,” he said.

In the same breath, Masicka also admitted that the musical landscape in Jamaica is a very competitive one, and entertainers need to release songs on a regular basis in order to stay relevant.

“Jamaica is a small place, you have like a million artiste,” he said.

He even joked that he would be making a song about being on the show and include the names of the hosts in it.

Following the airing of the interview, several dancehall fans praised Masicka for the way he handled himself on such a huge platform.

Masicka is currently in the United States to perform at a number of events, including On Da Reggae Soca and Tip to be held at the Ford Amphitheater in Coney Island Boardwalk, Brooklyn, New York, today.
