Substannzz laying the foundation for a solid career

-

Cavin Stewart has been trying for 10 years to break into the music business. Going by the stage name Substannzz, the St Thomas-based artiste started to dabble in music while in grade nine at Seaforth High School and since leaving the institution, he has decided to focus more of his energy on his musical career.

“I created this name for myself after leaving high school and decided to take music as my real career choice, but at ninth grade it (my name) was Don Karlington, then it was Lyrical Impact, then I settled for Substannzz because it suits me more comfortably,” he told THE WEEKEND STAR.

He explains that he chooses to use that name because it has several meanings that help to define his style.

“First meaning, is I’m full of (myself) substance. Next meaning, I’ll flow hard, I’ll flow soft and inbetween,” he said.

Describing himself as a versatile and creative artiste with songs like Dem A Chat, Happy Day, and Get The Break, he hopes he could emulate entertainers such as Bugle, Sizzla, Buju, Bounty Killer, Junior Gong, all of whom he looks up to.

While he is looking forward to Hard Fight to give him the ‘buss’, he said he doesn’t have a favourite recording because he thinks that they are all good.

With his manager Lassanio ‘Mugha’ Hall pushing his career, he has recorded songs for numerous labels, including Deno Dean Records, Ras Blingas Records and Unisis Music; but now, he is currently working with Black Eagle Records.
