Artiste defends new song

The artiste, who recently returned from a promotiona­l tour in support of his debut EP, said the single is already drawing attention and has passed 10,000 views on YouTube in less than a week.

“It’s really getting a lot of attention in the streets. The song is a reality that many inner-city youth face, and people love a story they can relate to,” he said. “I am bringing back real entertainm­ent in dancehall when people used to go to stage show and leave feeling pleased. I have my own style and my own image, and I also want to be here for a long time.”

Wanting to tell a story through the music video, the entertaine­r shot scenes in the inner city.

He explained that he wanted the message in the song to come alive on screen and felt that the inner-city backdrop was the best way to bring his story to life.

X3myst said he will continue to amplify social media promotion for the song as he believes it has the potential to do great things on the music scene.

In addition to promoting Smood Criminal, the artiste is gearing up to release a series of music videos in an attempt to improve his viability in coming months.

He is also calling for the industry to give more attention to artistes who are on the verge.

“We are putting in the work, and we work twice as hard. So we just want the industry to rally behind us because we making authentic dancehall,” he said.
