Fowler-Reid commits to West Coast Fever
Sunshine Girls captain Jhaniele Fowler-Reid has put pen to paper on a new contract with the West Coast Fever in the Australian Suncorp Super League competition for next season.
Fowler-Reid, 29, enjoyed a very successful first season in the Suncorp Super League, where she was voted the Most Valuable Player.
Regarded as the best shooter in the world, the Jamaican led the league in scoring with 783 goals, ahead of her national teammate Romelda Aiken, who ended the season with 575 goals.
She was also voted on the Team of the Year along with her teammate Jessica Anstiss.
However, Aiken led the league with the most offensive rebounds with 61, ahead of Fowler-Reid, 35, while Shimona Nelson was fourth with 27.
Fowler-Reid is among three key players who were re-signed by head coach Stacey Marinkovich, with the others being Courtney Bruce and Anstiss.
Marinkovich said that she was very delighted that the trio have decided to remain with the team for another year.
“Jess and Jhaniele are all worldclass athletes. They’re all international representatives, and they are all integral parts of our future,” Marinkovich told the website supernetball.com.au.
“We are steadfast in our approach to list management, so I am certainly glad they have each shown a significant commitment to West Coast Fever,” she said.
“What these athletes bring to the club, not just on the court, but also off the court, in terms of leadership, is second to none, and they will each play big roles in the future of Fever,” Marinkovich said.
