Donovan Duckie, coach of newly promoted Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) outfit Mt Pleasant Football Academy, said despite not meeting all their objectives, he is impressed by his team’s build up to their maiden top-flight campaign.

The St. Ann-based team won their two preseason games in a three-team football tournament that featured FC Reno and hosts Montego Bay United at WesPow Park on Sunday.

In the first game, Mt Pleasant FA dismissed Reno 3-0 before returning to trash the hosts 4-0.

“Well, I wouldn’t say we have met all our objectives. Our intention wasn’t to win the two games, our intention was to execute some things that we are working on and we did it,” said Duckie.

“We are even surprised at the two results today (Sunday). We won both games comfortably, but I’m very amazed by how we played. I thought we kept organised, we understood the philosophy of playing in different thirds,” he added.

CAUGHT IN TRANSITION

Duckie, who said they are building camaraderie and solidarity in the team, was excited about the way the players responded to the system of play they are working towards.

“We kept on getting caught in transition in the first game, we discussed it after and I thought we improved significantly in the second game. We were very comfortable and stable in possession, when we lost possession. I think we were also comfortable. This is what we have to be imprinting because of what we have been doing in training,” said Duckie.

“I am very excited about the possibilities going forward with these guys. I’m also excited about how the new players have integrated with the players that were here before,” he added.
