Cops to maintain presence at key intersections

-

Commanding Officer for the Traffic and Highway Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Senior Superintendent of Police Calvin Allen, says the police will be maintaining a presence at traffic lights in the Corporate Area during peak hours in order to maintain law and order.

Allen informed that more than 200 police officers were deployed on Monday to key traffic lights and intersections to help with the control of traffic and ensure that motorists adhere to the rules of the road.

“That is intertwined with members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), giving crucial support along certain corridors. Our police officers, during peak hours, will continue to be at these crucial intersections for a long while to come.

ELIMINATE INDISCIPLINE

We want to ensure that our presence is there to keep order and to, as best as possible, reduce or eliminate indiscipline that exists by some motorists,” said Allen.

He said the police would continue to assess deployment strategies.

“The focus is to ensure that order is maintained and that the travelling public can commute with a level of ease,” he added.

Allen said that members of the public have been giving positive feedback with regards to the presence of the security personnel.

“The presence of our police officers along the various corridors and intersections has made a tremendous difference in terms of how traffic flows. We have gotten [positive] feedback from the public as to their travel time,” he said.

Allen is urging motorists to be patient as the road improvement works continue.
