New Miss Jamaica World gears up for China

Miss Jamaica World 2018 Kadijah Robinson says she is looking forward to representing Jamaica at the global pageant in Sanya, China, in December. The 23-year-old beauty copped the title during the grand coronation show at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel last Friday. Pointing out that the competition was no easy feat, Robinson said she had to push herself over the past six months, and she is more than grateful that all her hard work has paid off.

“I’m so happy and overwhelmed right now. I can’t even put what I’m feeling into words. I am proud of myself and how much I’ve grown these past few months, and I look forward to growing even more as I move into the next phase of my journey,” she said.

“I am really happy to be getting the chance to represent my country. When I step out on that stage, I will not just be representing me and my hopes, but the hopes of the entire nation, and I hope I make Jamaica proud when I get to China.”

Although she was a standout contestant and a clear crowd favourite, Robinson said that she didn’t think she was the winner until the very moment they announced her as the new queen.

“Until that very moment, I never thought I had it won, to be honest. My sisters were so amazing that even though you prepared and you give everything on the stage, it was really difficult to say who would win. All the other ladies are really so beautiful and talented that any of them could have easily won the crown,” she said. “It really is a sisterhood in these competitions, not the stereotypical view of pageants from TV shows. We really are a family, we were all rooting for each other and I really have gained some sisters for a lifetime.” Robinson, a physiotherapist, says she wants to use the Miss Jamaica World platform to inspire anyone in any way she can, but she is really focused on raising awareness around the need for exercise. The newly minted queen says she wants Jamaicans to take better care of themselves so that they can take better care of the country.
