Construction worker charged for stabbing

-

Aconstruction worker who reportedly stabbed his babymother multiple times was denied bail when he appeared in the St James Parish Court last Wednesday.

Adolphus Allen, 47, of an Ocho Rios address in St Ann, is charged with unlawful wounding.

Although the date of the alleged incident was not outlined, the court was told that Allen came to the complainant’s home, where he chased and stabbed her multiple times. Residents intervened and took the injured woman to hospital.

In outlining the case to Parish judge Sandria Wong-Small, clerk of the court Shantalle Bannerbie opposed bail for Allen on the grounds that he had a violent history with the complainant.

“Before this incident, he [Allen] said to members of the community that he planned to kill her and then hang himself ... I believe he would be a flight risk and would interfere with the witness,” said Bannerbie.

Wong-Small said based on the wounds the victim received, “I can safely say that, but for the grace of God, she could be dead”.

The court was also told that a number of documents, including the medical report, were outstanding from the prosecution’s case file. Allen was subsequently remanded in police custody until October 18, at which time a Legal Aid attorney is to be assigned to him. He was also ordered to give his fingerprints to the police. –C.T.
