DaCosta Cup’s 2016 leading goalscorer Jourdaine Fletcher, who led Cornwall College to the title in 2016, returns to the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) outfit Montego Bay United (MBU) after a short stint overseas. Fletcher scored on his debut for MBU two years ago, but went on to play for San Jacinto College and Eastern Florida State College in the USA, before returning recently from trials with Maltese club St Andrew. He said he is looking to hit the ground running this RSPL season and pick up where he left off.

“I am so focused nothing can stop me right now,” said Fletcher. “I’ve gained a lot of experience. The trials have shown me a lot towards football. Some things that I didn’t know, I learnt and it’s in my game now. I just need to execute some of these things that weren’t in my game before to become one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

KEEP THE FOCUS

“My target in the first and second matches to at least score about four goals, keep the focus, keep training, and give it my best at all times. I want to give myself a chance to get a recall to the national team if even the under23 to start with and then take it from there,” he added.

Fletcher, who said he misses playing with Harbour View’s Peter-Lee Vassell, who is now a member of the national senior team, despite earning his call-up a year after him, is hoping to link up once more with his good friend this time on the national stage.

“Well, as you know, we are really close. He is my brother, so I am happy for him and what he is doing. It’s now my turn to get myself involved once again and start working together again because we have a good chemistry,” said Fletcher.

When asked about his relationship with Dino Williams, who he could start in favour of due to his recovery from surgery, Fletcher told STAR Sports they both are tasked with getting the goals for the team and are looking to do so together.

“I wasn’t in the team one year now and since I’m here we haven’t played much together... I have a good relationship with him and we always play well with each other. When he is back to full fitness, we know that we both have to score a lot of goals and bring MBU straight to the top,” said Fletcher.
