Although STAR of the Month Govana spits lethal lyrics on the tracks that he releases, he said at this point in his career, he does not want to enter into a musical showdown with another artiste.

Pointing to the evolution of dancehall, the Champ artiste contends that musical beefs have the potential to turn deadly in today’s society.

“Dancehall change over the years, enuh, back then where clashing was concerned, it was fun. Yuh see Beenie and Bounty on stage a guh at it and yuh fire yuh blank and laugh and everybody come offa di stage and everything all right,” he told THE STAR.

But he said things changed with the Gully and Gaza lyrical feud, with Mavado and Vybz Kartel at the centre of it.

“Wi see how violent that get and the yute nowadays 10 times more violent than that,” he said.

According to the artiste, overzealous fans may take clashes more seriously than they are.

TARGET OF NASTY LYRICS

He noted that some people who support him may take a clash the wrong way.

“Mi cut from a different cloth and the community weh mi forward from and di wul heap a people weh me help and dem thing deh. Even if me a go pree business and say mek mi tek it dah way deh (to clash), a man might tek it up pon him head and know say because me feeding this man son, him a go tek it up pon him head,” he told THE STAR.

Also, he said that he wouldn’t want his mother to be the target of some of the nasty lyrics that some tend to used in clashes.

“Mi wouldn’t really feel please inna myself if mi mada deh inna har store and a van a pass and she hear a man say ‘Govana guh **** out yuh mada’,” he said.

And with some of dancehall’s biggest stars doing time behind bars, he said he does not wish to join them and further damage the image of the genre.

“With me now and mi know the fight weh dancehall a get and to see a Ninja Man get weh him get, Vybz Kartel a fight weh him a fight and Buju fi forward, right now road nice,” he told THE STAR.
