JEALOUS SPOUSE KILLS MOM, DAUGHTER

-

Yesterday, scores of children flocked the Kiddies Village at the Love is the Answer ZOSO Expo and Concert held at the Denham Town Community Centre. This is a welcomed change for the inner-city community that has been under the watchful eyes of the security forces for the past several months. Although the children frolicked around and participated in various activities, some adults remained sceptical about the state of emergency (SOE) that was declared within the embattled community yesterday.

“Nothing nuh change as far as me concerned because a months ZOSO (Zone of Special Operations) deh here, and di Garden (Tivoli Gardens) man dem eat we food like rice grain. Me just a keep my eyes open same way because me still nuh

Residents of Rosemount in St James are labelling Fabian Lyewsang as heartless after he viciously slashed the throat of his common-law wife and stepdaughter early yesterday morning.

According to one female, Lyewsang, who is believed to be in his 30s, had consistently accused his partner of cheating when he had actually fathered a child outside of their union.

“Him go out go get pickney and di woman neva left him or kill him, and now look wah him do, bout him a get bun. Why him kill himself? Him shoulda stand up and face justice. Him is a wutliss coward,” the irate woman said.

According to the police’s Constabulary Communications Unit, at about 2:30 a.m., 45year-old Deon Smith and her spouse allegedly had a dispute during which he used a knife to slash the throats of both Smith and her daughter, Jayshenel Gordon. The police were summoned, and on their arrival both Smith and her daughter were found in a pool of blood at their home. They were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.

BEEN SLEEPING

Following the double killing, it is said that Lyewsang woke up his 13-year-old son, who had apparently been sleeping during the commotion, and they fled the location in Smith’s Nissan Tiida motor car, which he subsequently drove into the Rio Cobre, resulting in his death.

The boy was later found at a residence in feel safe no matter what,” a resident of Nelson Street told the news team.

According to another resident of the west Kingston community, there are still a number of loopholes that need to be fixed.

“Them say a fi a next 14 days, so me a go watch and see because for a minute me convince say the police dem did a take side. But me see dem start dig up over Garden and ting. Me hope is not a next lazy set a solider dem bring down here because nuff a dem nah do no work. Dem St Catherine.

Also shocked by the murders, Smith’s uncle, Hopeton McPherson, described the incident as a cruel act. “I know this man (Lyewsang) for quite a while, and although he did not talk a lot, I never expected anything like this from him,” McPherson said.

However, according to residents of the community, which is located some five minutes from downtown Montego Bay, the killing may have been sparked by jealousy, as, according to them, Lyewsang has been complaining to his friends that Smith was being unfaithful to him.

“Him always a seh she a give him bun, but me neva know seh him woulda tek it to such a level. And, because him a nuh de talkative type, you couldn’t really know wah a gwaan inna him head. But, it is a wicked act, especially fi cut de likkle girl throat,” a resident said. just move like dem wah make a baby factory down here because a bare gal dem wah breed off. Me just want the killing fi stop, and me good,” he said.

FULLY AWARE

Acting Superintendent of Police Dahlia Garrick told THE STAR that she has listened to the residents’ concerns.

“We can reassure them that our presence will be maintained, and we will respect the human rights. As with all our other SOE, we will ensure that we engage the citizens and let them be fully aware that our presence is there to re-enhance their security and safety,” she said.

In addition to Denham Town, the areas covered by the state of emergency include Oakland Road, sections of Waltham Park Road, Delamere Avenue, Delacree Road, Maxfield Avenue, Rosseau Road, Lyndhurst Road, and Studio One Boulevard.

It also extends to Slipe Road, heading to Orange Street, Harbour Street, Ocean Boulevard, Marcus Garvey Drive, sections of Greenwich Park, Tivoli Gardens, Lizard Town, and includes sections of Spanish Town Road.

Up to press time last evening, the security forces seized three firearms, and more than 100 persons were picked up for processing.
