Rushan Cross Breed ready to carve own path
Rohan Peterjohn McMorris, more popularly known as Rushan Cross Breed, is the son of reggae superstar Little John.
Like his father, Rushan showed an interest in music from an early age and developed a passion for creating songs and performing on stage.
As a child, Rushan always accompanied his dad to King Jammys, Youthman Promotion, Anchor and Dynamics Sounds Recording Studios.
It was at these studio jam sessions where he mingled with Jamaican music icons such as Sugar Minott, Eddy Fitzroy, Tristan Palmer, Jimmy Riley, Freddie McGregor and Ninja Man, and further fell in love with music.
He said he not only fell in love with the music but gained an appreciation for the business because of the hard work he witnessed the artistes putting in.
“While watching them in action, I noticed traits of perseverance, dedication, patience, perfection and unity,” he explained, pointing out that growing up around music has given him a drive and determination to continue seeking his break despite the obstacles. “I know the music business is not easy but this is what I love and I believe I’m good at it. In this business you have to be determined and exercise patience because the roadblock will come and you will need to persevere.”
Rushan Cross Breed is currently promoting songs such as Poverty, Fly Away, Sufferation and Time Is So Hard. He said most of his songs address social issues as he aims to highlight subjects such as mental slavery, prejudice, stereotype and segregation.
The artiste said he is ready to carve his own legacy in the musical space and is willing to do the necessary work to move from under his father’s shadow.
He explained that growing up, he was a little spoilt and would use his father’s legacy to push himself. He said he is ready to be independent, and even has dreams of one day owning his own musical label as he also hopes to help establish young talent.
Rushan Cross Breed describes himself as more than just a dynamic artiste; he labels himself a philanthropist and a visionary.
Having experienced some amount of hardship on his musical journey, the artiste wants to encourage other up-and-coming talent to hold steadfast to their dreams.
“Keep trying, failures are just learning experiences that prepare one for future conquests,” he said. “Always remember that every established artiste started out somewhere.”
