Portmore in good spirits ahead of Humble Lion clash

- ROBERT BAILEY STAR Writer Staff Reporter

Having won their first game of the season on Monday night against Harbour View, Shavar Thomas, head coach of defending champions Portmore United, said that his players are feeling much more confident going into tomorrow’s encounter against Humble Lion in the Red Stripe Premier League. Portmore, who were beaten 2-1 by promoted side Mount Pleasant in their opening game, bounced back to defeat Harbour View 2-0 in their second match on Monday night.

Thomas said that with their first win of the season now out of the way, his players are feeling much more relaxed and focused ahead of tomorrow’s game.

“It was important that in the second game, we get a good start and get three points so we can get our confidence up and feel good about ourselves,” said Thomas. “We also finished with a clean sheet and that was also important,” he said.

VERY COMPETITIVE

“We just want to come out with more of the same and get three points and move on to the next game,” Thomas said. “The relationship between us and Humble Lion is very competitive, and our players will be most definitely up for the game and ready to go,” he said.

“We are originally from Clarendon, so there is strong competition between both teams,” Thomas pointed out.

Humble Lion have lost their opening two games of the season, but despite this, Thomas said that they would not be taking their opponents lightly.

“We set a target last year that every team that we are going to play this year is going to come all out, so it is going to be a hard game because it doesn’t matter if they have won or lost two games. It is going to be difficult for us,” Thomas reasoned.
