Student meets the Teacher

Thomas’ Lennon face Hyde’s Clarendon College

Lennon High School coach Byjeon Thomas will be going up against Lenworth Hyde, with whom he still has a good relationship from working alongside at Clarendon College (CC) last year. The two will face off atop Zone H in the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup at the Lennon playing field this afternoon at 3:30.

Thomas, who admitted he has learnt a lot from working with the man widely referred to as the ‘Teacher,’ said he is looking to turn things around after last weekend’s first encounter where they lost to CC 5-1.

“I should think that our relationship is good,” most aspects, but defensive-wise, we had a different view on things. So I learnt something different in that area,” said Thomas, who helped guide CC to the Ben Francis Cup and the final of the daCosta Cup last season.

“I know it’s going to be a tough game, not only for us, but for them as well. I think the first encounter’s scoreline was a bit flattering, and did not show the true aspect of what happened in the game. However, tomorrow we are looking to put our heads down, work hard and see how best we can grind out, a favourable result,” he added.

COUNTER STRATEGY

When asked if he thinks that his prior knowledge of Hyde’s philosophy and the players at CC will help in developing a counter strategy for them, Thomas told STAR Sports that football is an ever-changing game, and so are teams at the schoolboy level.

“Definitely not, because football is a changing game and certain way how we did things a year ago would not be the same, as it’s not the exact same squad. He will have some changes in the way his team defends and plays, as it was shown in the last game. We are just preparing for the unknown, as anything can come up,” said Thomas.
