Remedies for vaginal discharge

-

Marla asks Check Up what natural inserts can be used in the female vagina to treat vaginal discharges like BV (bacterial vaginosis), which her doctor says tends to trouble her after her menstruation. She says if something is going to trouble her regularly, there must be something she can do to help herself.

Bacterial vaginosis is a very common female disorder where risk factors include frequent sexual activity, especially with multiple partners and pregnancy. It is not a sexually transmitted infection (STI), but puts a woman at a greater risk of acquiring an STI and experiencing complications during pregnancy. Many women do not know that they even have a BV infection. It has been shown that women who take the birth control Pill are less likely to develop BV, but use of an intra-uterine device will put you at a higher risk of developing BV.

BV discharge ranges from white to a greyish colour and may be accompanied by a fishy, odorous, smell. Sometimes the vagina can burn. To help resolve BV:

Avoid sexual intercourse for a period of time.

Avoid using harsh soaps near the genital region

Take a bath apple cider vinegar as an ingredient.

Or take a bath with baking soda as an ingredient.

Apply tea tree essential oil combined with water and witch hazel on a cotton pad and apply to the affected area. Do not douche! If you use tampons, upgrade them. Try natural cotton tampons and change them often.

Use condoms when sexually active.

Take probiotics, eat natural yogurt.

Eat a daily unprocessed diet.

Get enough sleep and exercise. Manage stress. Take garlic supplements. Wear cotton underwear. Practice good hygiene. The vagina and anus are close, so wipe properly, in a front-to-back direction only after using the bathroom

You can also irrigate the vagina for one week, with one ounce of dilute hydrogen peroxide.

If home treatment hasn’t helped in a week, then please visit your doctor for a check-up.
