Man caught with ‘side chick’ on assault charge

-

Acarpenter was dragged before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court last Friday to answer charges that he attempted to chop his girlfriend because she came to his house and saw him in bed with another woman.

Charged with assault at common-law is Omar Brown.

He pleaded not guilty and told the court that he took up the machete after the complainant took up a glass bottle.

Brown said: “She came over uninvited. I didn’t chop at her. If I did she couldn’t escape getting chop because the space is so small and she couldn’t run. I had the machete because she took up a glass bottle.”

The complainant told the court, “Your Honour, I didn’t have anything. To how I was shocked I couldn’t take up no weapon. He told me he was working in MoBay and I went to his house and saw him and her. His brother came between us and prevented him from chopping me.”

The complainant said she got into the house because the grille was not locked.

Parish judge Vaughn Smith asked if she felt bad when she saw the accused and the woman.

The complainant said, “Yes, I was hurt but we are no longer together.”

She asked the court to order the accused to pay her $31,300 that she said he owes.

Brown, however, said that he has only $15,000 to give her.

Smith asked the complainant if she would be willing to drop everything if she was repaid in full, a suggestion she agreed with.

The court then asked Brown to decide on the route he wanted to choose. He said, “Your Honour, I will pay her the money.”

Brown had his bail extended until October 22, the date to repay the complainant.
