Staynn wants to ‘Mek a Baby’

-

United States-based artiste Staynn believes that fatherless households remains one of the major contributing factors to decaying values and rising crime in the Jamaican society.

“Babies should be born in wedlock or in a stable situation. I am saying that people have a choice, but my preferred path would be [that the] baby born inna wedlock so the parents can struggle together and make it. Too many single parents over the last 30 years, man a cut lef’ the girl as they hear that they are pregnant. My thing a settledown thing and go through the struggle together. Too many broken families are in Jamaica,” said the artiste, whose real name is Dwayne Campbell.

He grew up in the rough streets of Kingston 13, and in his latest single, Mek a Baby, he courts a young female, offers her marriage, and vows that he wants to settle down with her and ‘make a baby’. Despite the ‘Lothario’ sentiments in the song, Staynn doesn’t believe in promiscuity and sequential relationships where men deny their responsibilities.

“Young children having children, and missing fathers is the biggest problem in Jamaica. The youths don’t have any experience, and unless they live in an environment with their fathers. A fatherless man finds it hard to be a father,” he said.

Mek a Baby was released on the Staynn music label in May 2018.
