Third child was asleep during Rosemount murders

On the night when Fabian Lyewsang killed his common-law wife, Deon Smith, and her 16-year-old daughter, Jayshenel Gordon, in Rosemount, St James, he reportedly fled with his 13-year-old son, leaving another child in the house.

The child, who was seemingly asleep during the brutal incident, was allegedly taken in by Lyewsang and was being cared for by Smith. Based on report, the child’s father, who was a friend of Lyewsang, was not in a position to care for the child, and Lyewsang and Smith took him in.

“Our understanding is that he (Lyewsang) took custody of the child after the father got into some difficulties and was not able to personally take care of him,” a policeman told WESTERN STAR. “Smith was actually the one caring of the child after Lyewsang became unemployed.”

According to reports, at about 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, September 2, Lyewsang and Smith got into a heated argument, and during the altercation, she was stabbed multiple times. After Smith was killed, Lyewsang reportedly went upstairs to Gordon’s bedroom, where he slashed her throat while she slept.

After the double murder, Lyewsang fled the scene with his son in Smith’s car, leaving the other child, who was believed to be sleeping at the time.

Lyewsang drove to St Catherine, where he left his son with members of his family, and then he drove to the Rio Cobre, where he committed suicide by driving the vehicle into the water.

“I am still trying to find out what has become of the little boy who was left in the house,” a relative of Smith told the WESTERN STAR yesterday. “I know for sure that relatives of his father were located, but I am not sure whether or not he is with them.”
