Seaga not satisfied

TG start perfect but club chairman demands more

Tivoli Gardens maintained their perfect start to the 2018-19 Red Stripe Premier League season by beating newcomers Dunbeholden FC 1-0 at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex on Sunday.

The result puts the west Kingston outfit atop the league with nine points, but their chairman, Edward Seaga, is not pleased with how his team has been playing despite the perfect start.

“I don’t like the game that we are playing. I don’t think we are playing our game yet. Tivoli Gardens’ game is a very active game and I didn’t see it this evening (Sunday),” Seaga said. “Our backline has been holding up, but there is a need for a change in the formation.”

Tivoli are scheduled to play against fierce rivals Arnett Gardens in their next game at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex next Monday, and the former prime minister is hoping the rivalry will inject the impetus he thinks his side needs.

“We play against Arnett next and we are accustomed to winning against them and they are accustomed to putting up a good fight against us so it should be interesting,” Seaga said.

A LOT OF WORK TO DO

He recalled the first game of the last season when a fiercely even contest was headed for a draw, before a Newton Sterling’s free kick gave Arnett Gardens all three points.

“When we play against good teams like that (Arnett), the boys are more active, but when the team is not good they don’t come out and play well,” Seaga said.

Omar Edwards, coach of the team, also admitted that there is still a lot of work to do to get the team firing on all cylinders.

“We know that teams are going to come at us ... so we have to keep on working hard and keep a good attitude and faith that we can go all the way,” Edwards said.

Tivoli last won the competition in 2011.
