-

Residents of Myers Lane in Newlands, St Catherine, scampered when the news team visited the area yesterday morning following the arrest of a policeman on Tuesday night.

Many were tight-lipped about the incident that unfolded, but one source told THE STAR that one of the men caught in the incident was a known gangster in the community.

“Him a bad man and dem know. Him people dem talk to him, but him nah listen,” the source said.

Reports from the police are that at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday, members of the CounterTerrorism and Organised Crime Branch (C-TOC) carried out an operation in the Newlands community when 52-year-old Devon Miller was arrested.

Corporal Miller, who attached to the operations section of the St Catherine South Police Division, was travelling in a blue Toyota Corolla with is 18-year-old Edward Forbes when they were stopped and the vehicle searched.

An AK-47 with the serial number scratched off, a magazine containing 15 rounds of ammunition, and a Taurus 9 mm were found in the trunk of the car. A second pair of licence plates was also found.

Miller’s licenced firearm was also seized.

A third suspect, Courtney Vassell, otherwise called ‘Terror Blacks’, who is believed to be the intended recipient of the guns escaped.

According to the source, the operation seemed well calculated.

“Mi nah tell no lie, when the car turn inna the lane, mi just see bare police behind it,” the source said.
