Green wants to leave lasting legacy at Holy Trinity

- LIVINGSTON SCOTT STAR Writer

Holy Trinity senior football team captain, Donte Green, has played six years of schoolboy football for the central Kingston school. However, for this year, the central midfielder has one objective: to leave a lasting impression on the competition by helping his school win their first ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup title.

The player, who turns 19 today, says he intend to give his all, both on the field and in the classroom, as he has strong aspirations of getting a scholarship and a national call-up.

“This is my last year and whenever it is your last year, you always put out your all to win something. I am playing Manning Cup for six years now, so this season I am going harder than ever. Even though we lost to Wolmer’s last Friday, we have to overcome that and come again and try to do our best to win the Manning Cup or the Walker Cup,” he told STAR Sports.

“I want people to talk about me when I leave Manning Cup, that Holy Trinity won something and that the captain was Dante Green, an outstanding midfielder. I want to win the first title for Holy Trinity, so everybody can talk about the 2018 Manning Cup and Holy Trinity High School,” he said.

Green, considered as the stabilising force in Holy Trinity’s midfield, has been very efficient at his game this season, breaking up attacks and starting them for his team and he believes his display so far can get him into the national setup.

UP TO STANDARD

“I am the captain and so far, I believe I am playing up to standard. I believe I can get a national call after this Manning Cup, that is my aim – to get a scholarship and get a (national) call-up. I cannot play next year, so I am working hard this year to get some subjects, get a scholarship and get a national call,” he said.

“I’ve been playing since I was 13. I play the ‘119’ position, so my game has to be clean when I am playing that role. Everyone looks up to me to keep the midfield going, because when the midfield is up, we can’t lose,” he reasoned.

Holy Trinity defeated Pembroke Hall 7-0 on their last game on Monday, but he says improvements are still needed if they are to achieve their objectives. “We are not performing to the standard we know we can perform. We lost against Wolmer’s last Friday and we are still recovering from it. So we are going to do our best, get some goals so we can go through on goal difference, or as the best second-place team.”
