Alleged Clarendon ‘death squad’ cop videotaped

The cop at the centre of the Clarendon ‘Death Squad’ trial was allegedly videotaped telling investigators that he was part of a special police squad in the parish.

Constable Collis ‘Chucky’ Brown is on trial for murder in the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston.

Hamish Campbell, assistant commissioner of the Independent Commission of the Investigations (INDECOM) said that Brown made the admission while at a meeting involving himself, a colleague, and the policeman at a popular hotel in Mandeville, Manchester, on August 6, 2013.

“He started to inform us about his activity in a police team where he had been involved with other police officers in shooting and killing people,” Campbell testified.

FATAL SHOOTING

Campbell testified that Brown was especially upset about how he was being treated by the police force.

“He was frustrated with the Police Command and upset about how he had been treated in respect to one particular shooting,” Campbell said, citing a fatal shooting at the May Pen Hospital in 2013.

It was revealed that a covert video and audio recording device were used to capture the meeting between the three.

ABrown is charged with the January 10, 2009 murder of Robert ‘Gutty’ Dawkins along the Palmer’s Cross main road in Clarendon, and the December 13, 2012 murders of Dwayne Douglas and Andrew Jamaica Defence Force soldier Private Garfield Brown and another co-accused are now at the May Pen Police Station where the soldier has been charged with possession of an illegal gun and the co-accused charged with being in possession of a stolen motor car.

Both accused were held in Swansea, Clarendon, last week.

Investigation being carried out by the May Pen Fearon along the Swansea main road in the parish.

He is also facing one count of wounding with intent and one count of conspiracy to murder. police have so far revealed that the gun in question has been linked to many other crimes.

The motor vehicle in question was also the one that was being driven by Nigel Winter from Old Harbour, whose body was discovered in the Swansea area on September 21.

The co-accused went to court last week and Brown is scheduled to be present in court on October 31.

The car in question belongs to another soldier and is equipped with a motor vehicle tracker.
