Waterhouse women on track for three titles

- LIVINGSTON SCOTT STAR Writer

Coach Xavier Gilbert says his Waterhouse women’s team remains on track for all available titles this season, after scoring a convincing 9-2 win over Montego Bay women in the final of the Jamaica Football Federation’s Women’s knockout competition last Saturday.

Shantel Bailey led the way with four goals for the Drewsland-based team, with other goals coming from Latoya Duhaney (two), Rochelle Gray, Jessica Johnson and an own goal.

Elizabeth Vassell and Jodi-Ann McGregor were the scorers for Montego Bay.

Although Waterhouse’s win over Montego Bay in the final was rather easy, Gilbert said the route to the final was not an easy one.

“The final was easier than the other two games. The (ideal) final was when we played Arnett the first time around, which we beat them 2-1. The semi-final was also challenging where we beat Olympic 4-2. So Arnett were tough opposition and we played them right after we defeated them in the mid-season final and they came hungry for revenge.

TWO TOUGH GAMES

“Olympic came to beat us as well, so we had two tough games but those teams sharpened the team leading up to the final. But getting rid of the tougher teams from before means the final would have been easier. So I anticipated an easy final, but it turned out easier than I anticipated,” he said.

Waterhouse are now through to the semi-finals of the league competition and Gilbert says they are still on course for all possible titles.

“It’s good we are still on course. Our objective is to get all three titles that are available and we have managed to have won two so far, so we are still on course for the third one as we have advanced to the (league)semi-finals. So far I am very pleased with the girls’ performance,” he said.
