Attorney to seek bail for Tesha Miller
Attorney Christopher Townsend says he will be heading to court this morning to file a habeas corpus application seeking the release of his client, reputed leader of the Clansman gang, Tesha Miller.
Miller was arrested by members of the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (CTOC) in the Corporate Area on Monday.
A man and woman who were in his company were also arrested.
Townsend said he was only told on Monday evening that Miller was taken into custody pursuant to an investigation under the anti-gang legislation.
He said he was awaiting word from the police as to their next course of action, such as whether Miller would be questioned.
“We have already prepared to file. We were hoping that we’d hear something by the end of today (Tuesday), but if we don’t, we’ll be filing a habeas corpus application tomorrow (today) morning to seek their release,” said Townsend.
Miller, who left Jamaica for the United States in 2013, was charged with illegal reentry, having previously been deported, and for having an identification card in another person’s name.
He was convicted of the offences and sentenced to two years and eight months in prison. He was subsequently deported in March 2016.
He then fled to The Bahamas in June 2016, but was also held by authorities there for illegal entry and subsequently deported to Jamaica.
