TEEN RAPED BY SCHOOLBOYS Mother wants justice

The mother of a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly gang raped by five schoolboys, said she is frustrated because she is not getting any justice.

Mary Jane* told THE WEEKEND STAR that in June she realised that her usually vibrant daughter became very reserved.

She said that after a month she realised that her daughter did not see her period, so she decided to take her to the hospital.

“I usually wash her underwear and I noticed that there was a discharge in it. In the first week of July, I brought her to the hospital and that is when the doctor told me that she was pregnant and had an infection,” she said.

Jane, who cried during the interview, said that she was manhandled by the nurses at the hospital, who thought she knew that her daughter was pregnant.

But Jane insists she was very surprised when she heard the news and ever since, she has to be on pressure tablets because she is stressed.

“They (hospital staff) called the police and the CDA and the matter was reported but from then nothing has been happening. They took her and questioned her and then told her to go to counselling and is when she opened up and started to talk,” she said.

Jane told THE WEEKEND STAR that her daughter said she was forced to a house by one of her schoolmates and then five boys took turns to rape her.

The broken mother said that she is not sure what to do because she is left with the burden of trying to nurture her daughter, who is having a hard time, and her other children.

“I had to move her from the community because people are ridiculing her and judging her and she cannot manage it. She and her siblings are fighting all the time and my pressure is so high,” she said.

Jane said no one is offering help to her and her children. She said that she has lost faith in the justice system because her daughter has to live with this every day and the persons who caused it are walking free.

“I tried talking to the police since week but every time I call to find out what is happening, they are saying they can’t talk to me and the person who can is not in office. I am tired because it is me alone and I have to work to ensure that all of them go to school and get a good education,” she said.
