Winning the league is not our priority – Speid

-

Winning the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) title is not on top of the list of priorities for Cavalier FC technical director, Rudolph Speid.

“The main priority for us is to develop players,” Speid told STAR Sports. “Our first objective is to develop young players and winning the league is secondary.”

He continued: “We want to prepare players for national and international football. We will always give the youngsters minutes and we will always make sure that players who come into the club are young talented players who need a chance.”

Cavalier’s sole Premier League title came back in the 1980-81 season.

They are currently in fourth position after seven games into the 2018-19 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) season and Speid is quite satisfied with their position.

“As long we are in the top six, we are satisfied. The season is still young and there is nothing clear about the league at this time,” he said.

Speid will be without five of his charges this weekend as they are off on national duties with the Jamaica Under-20 team.

“We will be without five of our players, but we are not complaining because we are happy they get the opportunity,” he said. Cavalier will go up against Mount Pleasant Football Academy at the Stadium East field at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
