A wicked road dis Toll Gate resident recounts many crashes

Herman Raymond is now used to hearing loud bangs as a result of crashes close to his home in Toll Gate, Clarendon.

“A wicked road dis man, a bare crash gwaan pon it. All three dead pon it one time. Mi feel di man dem just a drive too fast pon di road,” Raymond told CENTRAL STAR.

The 70-year-old, who has been living along the main road for 33 years, said he has witnessed numerous accidents.

“Based pon how the crash sound, yu can know when it serious. A over 10 crashes mi witness and di driver them won’t stop drive fast,” he said.

And last Friday, when he heard the screech of tyres followed by the clanging of metal at approximately 11 a.m., he feared the worst, as those sounds would spell doom in past.

When he ran out of his house, a beige Toyota Allion had run off the road into bushes. But luckily, the sole occupant had already made his way out of the badly damaged vehicle.

“Him come out by himself and a wul up him hand, it look like him hand bruck,” Raymond said, as he looked at the vehicle which had mowed down a few shrubs before sitting on a barbed wire fence.

Though this particular accident didn’t result in any loss of life, when the CENTRAL STAR arrived on the scene, a long line of traffic had built up along the usually free-flowing roadway, as a wrecker was trying to remove the damaged vehicle.
