Former champs ready for Ben Francis Cup

-

Warren Simpson coach of Glenmuir High School said despite struggling at the quarter-final stage of the daCosta Cup in the recent history, they have a good unit that can challenge for the Ben Francis Cup. Glenmuir, who has won this competition many times, will face Port Antonio High School in the quarterfinals of the ISSA/WATA Ben Francis Knockout Cup at Carder Park today at 2:30 pm in Port Antonio. “We have not gotten positive results (in daCosta Cup quarter-finals) in winning. However, in terms of the system of play that we are using, the way the players are gelling and the transition in the midfield from defence to attack, we see positives,” said Simpson. “We are looking forward to starting the Ben Francis declaring that we will be fighting to go all the way in this competition,” he added.

LACK OF EXPERIENCE

In another game at the Juici Patties Park, 2016 champions Lennon High School will take on Old Habour High School. Byjeon Thomas, coach of Lennon, said that they are looking forward to today’s start of a competition that could turn their average season into something great.

“Yes, we are definitely looking to cap off this season with doing our best in the Ben Francis. Hopefully, that will result in victory and us lifting the trophy at the end.... I think that we have the quality, we just lack the experience this year,” said Thomas, who don’t believe any pressure is on them to deliver despite being the last of the eight teams to have won the Cup.

“I don’t think we have any more pressure than the other teams to deliver because it’s eight teams with similar capabilities... Yes, definitely, they (school community) are looking forward to it but I’m sure the other school’s community is looking to it as well. Everyone will be up for the games ahead as all eight teams are looking to finish their season with a trophy,” he added.
