Several past students of the Herbert Morrison Technical High School in Montego Bay, St James, yesterday gave back to their alma mater by donating $2 million worth of musical equipment for the school’s music department and 30 pairs of shoes to the basketball team.

The past students, who are members of the Herbert Morrison Technical High School New York Tri-State Chapter, presented the items to the school in a handover ceremony held during the school’s devotional exercise.

Paul Adams, principal of Herbert Morrison, expressed gratitude for the gifts, which were supplied by the New York Tri-State Chapter.

“I’m really elated and grateful and thankful on behalf of the student population. For our basketball team, our senior team is the national champion, and this will take them a far way in training, in preparation, and also in competition,” said Adams.

“Also, our music department has been doing a tremendous job over the years, and to see we have received such tremendous gifts, we are grateful, and we really needed this,” Adam added.

The school’s newly received musical equipment included a brand new keyboard, a drum set, a bass guitar, and several music stands.

The sports department received several packages of Gatorade in addition to the 30 pairs of shoes for the basketball team.

This latest set of gifts comes one month after the New York Tri-State Chapter donated several items – to include 32 computers and four printers – to upgrade the school’s computer lab.

Clive Heath, who was one of Herbert Morrison’s founding students during its opening in 1976 and who led the Tri-State Chapter delegation on Monday, encouraged the students to represent their school well.

“I want to encourage each of you not to take lightly your coming here to learn from Monday to Friday. Make this institution proud as this was a no-name institution when I came here and it is [now] one of the envies of the west,” Heath told the students.
