Greenvale to get Jacob Miller studio
Arecording studio is to be built in Greenvale, Manchester, in honour of Jacob Miller. Mikael Phillips, the member of parliament for North West Manchester, said the studio forms part of his plans to improve the community tourism offerings in the constituency.
“I will be constructing a rehearsal and recording studio at the Greenvale Community Centre. This will be named after the great Jacob Miller, who was from the community of New Green,” Phillips said.
Phillips said the Jacob Miller studio will complement the Garnet Silk Cultural Yard, which is to be located in top Greenvale.
“This fits in our overall community tourism plans, coming behind the Noisy River project and the Maidstone Museum,” Phillips said.
Funding for the project will come from the Tourism Product Development Company.
“The budget for phase one is $3 million. Construction is expected to begin by the end of January.
“Our target group are talented young men from the constituency or musicians from central Jamaica who may need a rehearsal and recording studio,” Phillips said.
Miller, who was the son of Joan Ashman and Desmond Elliot, was a Jamaican musician who made an impact in his relatively short life. The lead singer for the reggae group Inner Circle died in a car accident in 1980. He was only 27 years old.
