Residents fearful after woman’s body found in shallow grave

- ALICIA BARRETT STAR Writer

Residents of Green Island in Hanover are quite shaken up about the discovery on Tuesday evening about 5:30 of a woman in a shallow grave, according to their councillor Marvel Sewell.

The woman, who police sources say is 72-yearold Nancy Hardy, is said to be an American citizen who has a business and house in Whitehall in Westmoreland.

Reports from the Hanover police are that Hardy, who also resided in Amherst, Massachusetts, in the US, was reported missing on November 24.

Sewell told THE STAR that according to information he received, the woman was killed outside of the community and brought there.

He said that residents have expressed their fear since there are no clues as to who would do such a wicked act.

“In our community on a whole, the tourists are always protected by the citizens, so they are upset because they believe that the person or persons who did this are tainting their community,” he said.

Sewell said that one of the main issues that the Green Island community faces is the lack of street lights, which he said pose a danger for community members.

He said that he had to be talking to residents in order for them to calm down.

“When I had discussions with them, they are saying that they are afraid because they are not sure what is going to happen next. I am just going to sit and let them vent,” he said.
