Real V.I wants to impress at GT Taylor show
Dancehall artiste Real V.I doesn’t want your pity. He wants your ears. Although he is paralysed and confined to a wheelchair, he still has a desire to be a popular dancehall artiste.
“Everybody sees the work I am putting in. I don’t make my situation dictate my life or how I go about living. I am a self-driven person. There is no pity in my thing. I don’t need a babysitter. I am too strong to stop at anything right now,” said the artiste, whose real name is Cosmo Watson.
He is booked to perform at the GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza on December 25 at the Luana Complex in Black River, St Elizabeth, with acts like Sizzla, Beenie Man, Rygin King, Govana, Teejay, Sasco, Etana, Ken Boothe, Leroy Sibbles, Wayne Marshall and Tanto Blacks.

“There is a whole lot riding on this [performance], and I am going all out to make a big impression,” he said.
Real V.I suffered a crippling spinalcord injury that left him paralysed almost 12 years ago when he was shot in the back by two gunmen in his home town, Seaview Gardens.
“I woke up one morning and went to my neighbour’s yard to get a rake, but two gunmen were hiding there, and they shot me. I guess it was the wrong place at the wrong time. It was just one of those things because everybody knows that a just straight music mi deal with,” the 41year-old artiste said.
Still, Real V.I wants to make a name for himself. He has had the opportunity to record for legends such as Junior Reid, Sugar Minott and Black Scorpio Records. These days, he is busy promoting two singles, Celebrate and Darkness To Light, which were produced by EarthSource
Records.
