Shadae wins Thornton Got Talent competition

-

Ameilia Cummings, otherwise called ‘Shadae’, walked away as the first winner of the Thornton Got Talent competition on Sunday.

On the way to victory on Sunday night, Shadae delivered Shakira’s Waka Waka, which she backed up with fancy dancing, much to the delight of the crowd.

She also delivered Adele’s Someone Like You to set the stage for her first prize of $20,000.

“I am overwhelmed, I’m speechless,” was her first reaction after being declared winner.

“I pray my journey don’t stop here,” she added.

Jaydeen Skyers, who sang Rihanna’s Pon De Replay and Rockabye by Sean Paul & AnneMarie, wasn’t totally satisfied with second place.

“The first place was there, why not get it?” said Skyers, who won $10,000 for her efforts.

She said “the experience was awesome and I learnt to take constructive criticisms from the judges, and it helped me a lot in my performances”

Derval Palmer walked away with third place and $5,000, while Barba, who was voted the most entertaining, finished fourth.

True Bargain Hardware boss Delroy Slowley, who sponsored the competition, described it as “real novel idea”.

“When they approach me at first, I didn’t really take it that seriously, but as a community builder, when the idea was presented to me I like it, and I said yes without any hesitation.

BIGGER AND BETTER

“I am really looking forward to next year, when we will make this a bigger and better completion,” said Slowley.

Shereace Senior, president of the community club, who were the organisers of the event, said the competition exceeded expectations.

“It brought the community together, as was our aim, and showcased some of the talents,” she added.

“We plan to have this as an annual event also, with the hope of having more sponsors and more persons being a part of the competition; not just from Thornton, but other communities or parishes in Jamaica,” she said.
