D’Angel gets an ‘A’ for her culinary skills

DWith her hair slicked back into a ponytail, she puts on her ‘cooking’ dress and glides into the kitchen to show off her culinary skills.

of the Month was ready to prove that she could cope on her own without hiring a chef.

Her initial plan was to prepare baked chicken, but in the interest of time, she decided to do shrimp in coconut sauce with brown rice and steamed vegetables.

After sharpening her knife, she proceeded to clean, wash and season the shrimp, which she allowed to marinate for a few minutes, while she put the coconut milk and seasonings to boil.

“I like to cook, but I am always busy, so I don’t get to do it often. But most Sundays, the kitchen is mine. Holidays, especially Christmas, are very big to me, so that is when I will be in the kitchen all day. Shrimp is one of my favourite foods, and it is very easy to prepare. Mi nuh like ‘plakka plakka’ rice, so you have to know the right measurement of water to get it shelly,” she said.

Between laughter, she denied having Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), although she would constantly clean the counter and stove.

“My kitchen have to spick and span. I wash and wipe as I use. One ting with my mother is that her kitchen always clean, so all a we learn that from her. Mi nuh really eat a road much because mi like to see and know how my food prepare,” she said, as she wipes the top of the stove that was already squeaky clean.

The aroma of D’Angel’s meal was extremely strong just minutes into her cooking. She again credits her mother for teaching her how to prepare meals.

“My mother taught me everything I know, and she is the best chef ever. She was the only woman that my late dad would eat from. Anyway, no matter how me and her cook the same meal, hers would taste different even if we use the exact same ingredients,” she said.

After waiting for little over an hour, the meal was ready, but she prepared a drink made of Freshstart, lime juice and ginger, before serving the dish.

‘A’ for her culinary skills.
