Postponed Manning Cup games resume today

- DANIEL WHEELER STAR Writer

Group F favourites Calabar High and St George’s College will conclude their rain-affected encounter in one of 10 rescheduled games in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup today.

The match, which started on September 17, was called off at half-time with both teams goalless as lightning was present in the area. The severe weather conditions also caused the postponement of the other nine games scheduled for that day. In response, ISSA has changed the match times for all games, going forward, to 2 p.m.

Group leaders St George’s played one game since that rain affected game, registering their third straight win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Campion College last Friday. Calabar have remained unbeaten, clipping Ardenne High 1-0 to move into third place in the group on goals scored, having played one game less than second-place Eltham High.

In one of the other rescheduled games, Kingston College head coach Ludlow Bernard is focused on completing a professional performance, as the defending champions will resume their game against Dunoon Technical at Breezy Castle. The runaway leaders of Group G will continue their encounter from the 55 minute, leading 2-0 with goals from Christopher Pearson and Shayaun Gayle.

Bernard is focused on making sure that his team maintains its advantage, while ensuring that it remains healthy going into its weekend fixture against Excelsior High.

“The main approach is to see out the game and maintain our advantage and also try to prevent unnecessary injuries, because we have a challenging game coming up on the weekend. So we will be very conservative in our approach,” he said.
