GoFundMe account set up for Louie Rankin’s funeral

-

AGoFundMe account set up to offset funeral expenses for the late Louie Rankin has been confirmed as legitimate. Questions had been swirling since Wednesday when the account became live, as persons pondered its authenticity.

But in a brief email correspondence between THE WEEKEND STAR and the account holder, it was revealed that the fund was 100 per cent real.

Julie Skyes, the creator of the account, was Rankin’s partner, and said that it was set up by family and friends of the late actor for his daughters and to cover funeral arrangements, some of which they are ‘firming up’ now.

She explained that the trust account can only be accessed for specific things but did not get into any other details.

THE WEEKEND STAR pressed for an extended interview but up to press time, Skyes had not returned other email requesting such.

The account, Trust for Louie Rankin children, was created on Wednesday with a target of US $30,000.

The description read: “On September

30, 2019, Louie ‘OX’ Rankin passed away suddenly in a car crash. He was a legendary dancehall artiste and actor known for his roles in iconic films Belly and Shottas and his hit song Typewriter. He was also a father, son, and brother to a very large family.”

The description said his youngest children are one-year-old twin girls, a three-year-old girl, and two stepchildren, aged eight and 11.

The description also read: “He had a huge heart and was always looking out for everyone else. Louie would want his children to continue a good life and have a good education. At this time we are asking for support with funeral expenses and for his youngest children’s future. Even if you just share to help keep his memory alive.”

The page has since raised US$10,775 of the targeted amount with more than 17 donors having already contributed.
