-

Sharon ‘Rose’ Brown, 55, died one week after being hit by a Coaster bus on Spanish Town Road in Kingston last Wednesday.

Brown’s elder sister, Jacqueline, said that it is extremely heartbreaking to lose a sibling in that manner.

“When she go a hospital, dem put on a neck brace pon har and den dem a seh dem a go do X-ray. Me go deh wid har go do di X-ray cause me deh deh wid har right through. Then, dem carry har and seh dem a go admit har. After dat, she did a fi do a CT scan, because eight of her ribs bruck and har lungs puncture.”

On Sunday morning, Jacqueline once again went to visit her, but was told that it was best to let her sleep as being awake would expose her to more pain.

“A doctor come and a seh it serious and she need fi do a test. When dem carry har go do the test and come back, dem say one a har ribs damage really bad. Dem put peepee bag pon har. When she come back from theatre, is like she in a more pain. She been bawling and a seh it a hurt har, it a pain har and she a feel pain.”

With her sister now gone, Jacqueline says she is unsure of her next move.

“She did a talk to me right through and identify everybody weh come visit har. So how? When me gah di police, dem seh dem caan lock up di driver because dem haffi do the autopsy fi find out di cause of death, fi see if a the accident or doctors’ negligence kill her,” she said.

“Every week I have to reach to Montego Bay from Grange Hill, Westmoreland, twice a week for dialysis. It’s kinda rough getting back and forth. And to keep on a steady diet, the food stuff that I’m supposed to eat is expensive; food and fruit and stuff like that, they are expensive,” she said.

Grant, who lives with her mother and has no children of her own, said she owned and operated a small shop in her community, but business has dwindled since all her funds have to be channelled into her healthcare.

“My body has been changing. I am feeling more pains just outta the blue. I got some blood tests to do and an ultrasound to find out what’s going on in the body. I want to get them done soon so I can get the results back to the doctor. The blood test that I’m supposed to do, that’s $7,500, and the ultrasound is $5,500,” she said.
