D’Angel, the ‘Lady of dancehall’, says she is one who believes firmly in second chances, and that’s why when the opportunity presented itself for her to work with exconvict-turned-recording-artiste Jakal, she did not hesitate.

Jakal, a deportee and rapper, has been using music to turn his life around. D’Angel says having had first-hand experience of how difficult the industry can be, she will not be the one to cast judgement.

“We all have a past, so who am I to judge,” she said.

“I strongly believe in second chances and some people do change for the better. He is testament to the fact that there is hope after the dark days.”

Dancehall artiste Spice is known for her energetic performances and racy lyrics but the ‘Queen of Stage’ has been looking to broaden her horizons in the entertainment sphere. In recent times, she has been trying her hands at producing and directing and on her latest single, Tables Turn, the deejay takes on both roles.

In a release sent to THE STAR, she expressed that she has always been involved in her projects and her taking on more responsibilities is just testament to her growth. “Though it may seem like a new experience, I have been instrumental in many of my previous projects. I have grown a lot on my musical journey and producing and directing comes with that growth.”

Released last Friday, the song is currently number one on the local YouTube trending list.

Amidst new music, Spice is also looking to interact more with her core fan base. It is to that end that she officially launched Spicey Fridays inside A-Bar Restaurant and Lounge last week. In addition to giving back to her fans, Spice said the event was her way to alleviate the struggles dancehall has been facing since police began enforcing the noise abatement act.

The pair has collabed on Me Alone, and it features on Jakal’s Deportee album.

“My expectation for this track is that it will hit the Billboard charts because this new sound and flow has the right blend of dancehall and international appeal to cross over and become a major chart topper,” she said.

D’Angel says working with Jakal has been so seamless, that people have been linking them romantically, but she explained that although the rapper has become a good friend, their relationship doesn’t go beyond the studio.
