Hydal admits to conning women on new single

- STEPHANIE LYEW STAR Writer

Dancehall artiste Hydal, given name Akeem Robinson, has been fielding questions about the content of his latest single Rental.

The lyrics speak about a man renting vehicles that he passes off as his own to entice women.

It has sparked heated discussions on social media concerning men who lie about their personal possessions and the women that are easily impressed by them.

The conversation has got even louder with the release of the official music video a week ago, which accurately depicts the lyrics.

“I write about reality and this is actually what happens out there. Sometimes you have to pull a one ‘con’ on a girl because you know she prefer a yute in a hot car, and yes, I admit to doing this myself in the past to impress a girl,” Hydal told THE STAR.

The video is expected to hit the 100,000 views mark before the weekend he said, the same way his previous song Powers did earlier this year; it is now close to one million views on YouTube.

It was that track that Hydal named as a major catapult for his career in dancehall, and while he wants to reinforce his presence on the local scene with his latest production, he expressed: “In no way do I want to send the wrong message to the young people; the lyrics are left for interpretation. But like a movie, it is purely for entertainment.”

He also clarified that he meant no disrespect to females with Rental.

“I was sharing a story and matching the lyrics to the visuals; ah nuh every woman easily impressed by a man in a nice car. The fact is, however, that some girls have ‘pretty car eye’ and men will do anything to get with them,” he said.
