Money Pull Up! Seckle!

- KIMBERLEY SMALL Staff Reporter

One of the biggest names in Kingston’s dubplate business is Taj-Vaughn ‘Pantason’ Johnson – and he has been steady on the grind for the past month in preparation for this weekend’s Red Bull Culture Clash.

Many other music professionals, entrenched in the recording business, are currently up to their necks with requests as the allstar crews prepare for the upcoming battle royale.

According to the young dub agent, every person active in the music industry has exponentially benefited from Red Bull Culture Clash coming to Jamaica for the first time. “Money a spend. Everybody

a benefit. It’s like an increase in sales. It’s like a cruise ship come in and stop a Trelawny. It’s an increase for all the vendors. Once you have something to do with music.” He also pointed out the benefit to selectors islandwide. “Whole heap ah selector get pick. Everybody wah go,” the ‘dubmaster’ continued.

He said that representatives of the four teams contending for the ultimate bragging rights as Culture Clash Champions have been piling on their requests. Red Bull Culture Clash will take place at the National Arena this Saturday. Gates open at 8 p.m. and show time is at 10 p.m. Described as the world’s biggest musical battle, the clash sees four teams competing against each other for crowd approval.

Pantason was understandably tight-lipped about who has been recording with for the past month. He did, however, offer some figures.

“For one team specifically, I’ve done about 25 dubplates. Between all of the teams, it’s been over 150. Everything I’ve been doing for the past month is for the clash.”

Son of nine-time sound clash champion Pink Pantha,

Pantason’s repertoire is extensive, including characters like rappers

French Montana and

Desiigner, Shenseea,

Masicka, Gage, and more. He is even recognised by record executive DJ

Khaled as one of the best in the business.
