Christmas tree lighting to showcase Kingston as creative city

Ding Dong, Shenseea, Teejay set to perform

This year’s annual treelighti­ng ceremony, put on by the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporatio­n (KSAMC), is set to showcase Kingston as a creative city of music.

According to Jodiann James, public relations officer at the KSAMC, the event, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, December 19, boasts a line-up that is bound to start the festive season off in the right way.

“Kingston is a very creative and diverse city with an immensely rich culture. The line-up for this year shows exactly why we are a creative city of music. We have the likes of Ding Dong, Shenseea, Teejay, Sister Pat, Kukudoo set to perform on Thursday. It’s guaranteed to be an event for the whole family filled with clean, wholesome entertainm­ent,” she said. “As the home of reggae, this event is one of our ways of bringing everyone together and showcasing the musical talent that helps us to standout as a country.”

RENEWED ENERGY

James went on to express that with the whole energy surroundin­g the rebranding of downtown Kingston, there is a renewed energy in the area, and the tree lighting ceremony will only add to that. “When you look at this event, it’s the highlight for downtown and the municipali­ty in general. It’s something people look forward to every year, and with the whole thrust of rebranding and rejuvenati­ng downtown Kingston, it will definitely add to the excitement in the area,” she said.

She continued: “What this event provides is an opportunit­y for us to ring in the Christmas holidays with love and an opportunit­y to embrace our unique culture. It’s free to the public and usually attracts a lot of people.”

The Christmas tree lighting is set to get under way at 6:30 p.m. at the St William Grant Park.
