Price needs squad boost for new year

- ROBERT BAILEY STAR Writer

With just eight goals between his two strikers so far this season, Humble Lion head coach Andrew Price says he will be looking to boost his attacking unit when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Clarendon-based Humble Lion, who are third in the standings with 27 points, have netted 19 goals, while conceding 15. In fact, the club registered nine draws from their 18 matches this season.

Richards are the team’s leading goalscorers with four goals each and Price noted that goalscoring has been a major problem not only at his club, but also in the country.

“I think it is a problem that we have not only at Humble Lion but in Jamaica because I don’t think we are scoring enough goals,” said Price.

“There is some amount of concern for us and so if there are available people out there and people who can assist us, then we would look at it seriously when the transfer window opens in January.”

He continued: “We need to be more clinical up front and we as coaches have to continue to work with the players so that we can get them more clinical in front of goal,” Price said. “We would love to score more goals and that is an area of concern for us right now.”

The veteran coach pointed out that if they had converted those draws into wins, then they would have been a lot higher up the points table.

“Defensively, we have conceded 15 goals, but at the same time I believe having season high nine draws, a lot of those draws could have been turned into victory if we were more clinical in front of goal and so we will have to concentrate more on our finishing going forward,” Price said.
