Du’Rite cries that there is ‘no hope’

-

Reggae artiste Du’Rite is amping up promotion of his single ‘No Hope’, the lead track of his four-song EP of the same name, which will be released on his Du’Rite Music label in 2020.

“The inspiration behind

No Hope comes from my observation that the rich always oppress the poor spiritually, emotionally and physically. They use spirituality to drive fear in poor people and try to box them in a corner. The rich provide the basic resources so they will always stay poor and look to them for opportunities. So it’s an endless cycle, the poor will always be poor, “Du’Rite said.

“There is no hope for the wicked who manipulate, enslave and brainwash the masses; the ship cannot sail to Zion,” he added.

The EP contains other songs Mama Don’t Cry, Sun Come Shine and Bloody City.

“The feedback has been positive so far for all the songs, especially No Hope, and I will be pushing the video in 2020,” he said.

Having grown up on March Pen Road, St Catherine, he described music as his saviour.

He pointed out that having lost close friends to gang wars, he could have easily been led down the wrong path.

But when he migrated to the US in 2006, he pursued music and got an opportunity to make songs.

“Back then, a gang war was going on in March Pen between One Order and Clansman (gangs), and I just had a song about it in my head called Bloody City, and I sang out about it and I have been working on my craft ever since,” he said.

Based in Florida, he has found it challenging to break into the local scene. He said that Jamaica is highly competitive and that he has had to work twice as hard because he is not in Jamaica to push his songs as much as he would want to.

“My goal is to go far in this music, and so challenges will not stop me. I will keep pressing,” he said.
