Rebuilding Reno want back glory days
Following relegation from the Premier League last season, Reno FC are looking to use the opportunity to get their house in order as they hope to return to the pinnacle of club football in Jamaica.
Club president Wendell Downswell said they are looking for new investors as well as sponsors to get Reno back to the glory days of Premier League titlewinning years of the ‘70s. FitzRoy Vidal is the current chairman, after taking over two years ago.
“Financially, it’s not the best. We are seeking someone who can partner with us as it relates to buying into the vision and concept of the club. We are looking at restructuring the whole administrative aspect to ensure we are up there with the best practices. Once we are able to do that and solicit a major sponsorship, then that all goes well for the future of the club,” Downswell said.
NEXT SEASON
The Westmoreland-based club’s aim is to return to the Red Stripe Premier League next season and has reinstated former coach and club legend Michael ‘Jim-dandy’ Graham at the helm. They have played two games so far in the JFF Western Confederation Charley’s JB Rum Super League with a win and a loss apiece.
Downswell is optimistic about the season ahead as he believes the team is playing fairly well in the absence of a few senior players who are expected to full out the squad as the season goes on.
“The intention of the club is to get back into the Premier League. I must commend the coaching staff. We started the presentation a bit late but based on what we have seen so far, there are some positive signs. To start off on such a positive note winning 3-0 all goes well for the club,” Downswell said.
“We are looking to by January to strengthen the team so that we will be far more competitive going forward into the season. Also, we have a few senior players to join the ranks in shortly. We haven’t lost many players, most of them are on loan,” he said.
