Taxi driver uses money he found to help neighbours

- R.L.

Earlier this month, a taxi driver who found $100,000 in a bag in his car described it as ‘a gift from God.’

But after the story was published in THE STAR, he admitted that he regretted sharing it, out of fear that someone would come and claim the money, or worse, claim that more money was in the bag.

“Me a seh, suppose somebody come fi di money wid police and all claim seh a more dem did have ina the bag ... me did really feel a way but me neva did a go give it up; fight and funeral before that happen,” he said.

The taxi driver told THE WEEKEND STAR that he has used the money to better the lives of others.

“A 60 grand alone me use, enuh, cause me gi weh 40 grand. Me buy up some paint fi couple people ina me community ... me gi a lady couple bag a cement and some block fi finish the back a har house. Me buy two likkle phone fi two good young, helpful yute ina di scheme,” he said.

The taxi man said that being able to do that reinforces the idea in his mind that the money was an early Christmas gift sent by God.

“A God mek me able fi do dat. God know long time seh when me did find da money deh, a nuh me alone it a benefit. Yuh think God nuh smart? Round five people better off now,” he said.

Moreover, he basks in the $60,000 that he kept for himself.

“Me go buy me new mattress, of course, and di landlord boy neva did afi come knock dung di gate fi him money ... me call him and gi him di money dis time,” he said, laughing.

The taxi driver says he is surprised that no one came forward to claim the money.

“Me nuh hear nothing ... me taxi brethren dem nuh hear nothing. The man dem a seh dem a wait pon fi dem blessing, too. Everybody wah find a money fi di Christmas! Me wouldn’t mind me find some more, too,” he said.
